At the Sonesta Resort Hilton Head Island, even a hurricane couldn’t stop our Culture of Caring from raising money for breast cancer research.

The Sonesta Resort Hilton Head Island devoted the entire month of October to raising breast cancer awareness, and to raising funds for the Susan G. Komen Foundation at its many onsite venues. Even with the unwelcome arrival of Hurricane Matthew, the resort raised over $1,000 to support the search for a cure.

The resort’s October “Think Pink” package included a $20 per-night donation to the foundation. Guests also enjoyed 10% off all resort food and off the best available rate. At Heyward’s, the property’s popular restaurant, guests had the option to sit at an honorary “pink table”. Those who did had 10% of their meal’s cost donated to the cause. Specialty “Think Pink” cocktails also did their part to raise money as Sonesta donated $1 for every drink sold, from a “Tickled Pink” concoction of gin, muddled cucumber, fresh lemon, simple syrup and a splash of cranberry to a “Raspberry Lemon Drop,” made with citrus vodka, Chambord, muddled raspberry, fresh lemon, simple syrup and soda.

Pearls Gift Shop, Sonesta’s onsite boutique, donated 10% of its sales of pink-branded items. The popular Arum Spa did the same, giving 10% of its sales from pink manicures and pedicures. You can imagine the many pink toenails lounging by the pool and on the beach throughout the month!

“Our resort team is grateful for the opportunity to support not only the cause for Breast Cancer Awareness and the Susan G. Komen Foundation, but also our friends, family members, neighbors and resort guests who have been affected by breast cancer,” said Jay Wiendl, general manager of Sonesta Resort Hilton Head Island. “This cause is close to our hearts and we hope that our efforts will encourage and inspire others to give to the cause, fight strong and ultimately assist in finding a cure.”

Mr. Wiendl’s words ring even more true as we look back on the winds of October. After weathering the storm with some minor damage, the Sonesta Resort Hilton Head Island is back up and running and accepting reservations. Still, what makes us most proud is the unwavering spirit of Sonesta’s Culture of Caring and the funds we were able to raise to help the Susan G. Komen Foundation fight breast cancer.
