If you know New Orleans, you know that the annual Mardi Gras is a tiny fraction of the festival scene in NOLA. April and May welcome two gatherings of local and international artists that celebrate the city’s musical heritage.

Annual French Quarter Festival, April 7-9

2017 marks the 34th year that dozens of performances have enlivened the streets and parks of New Orleans with the joy of music. This year, more than 150 acts will grace some 15 stages spread throughout the French Quarter over this 3-day weekend.  And our very own Jazz Playhouse, the best jazz club in town, is proud to be an Official Stage, hosting performances for the 8th year in a row, opening our intimate space to remarkable free performances by musical legends, many of whom call the Jazz Playhouse home. And while you’re here, be sure to sample our craft cocktails and mouthwatering appetizers. It all begins on Friday April 7 at 2:00 p.m. with three shows each afternoon until the final show at 8:00 p.m. on Sunday April 9. See the full schedule here.

There’s plenty of “festival” elsewhere in the city, too! Dozens of food and beverage booths serving local cuisine, wines and brews will line Jackson Square, Woldenberg Riverfront Park and the Louisiana State Museum’s Old U.S. Mint – affectionately dubbed the “World’s Largest Jazz Brunch.” Sonesta will be there as our Restaurant R’Evolution serves up Sugarcane Glazed Pork Belly Po-Boy and Crab Beignets with Red Pepper Remoulade and Desire Oyster Bar offers Oyster Rockefeller Po-Boy, Fried Chicken & Waffles with Bourbon Cane Syrup, and Bread Pudding with Whiskey Sauce

New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival, April 28-May 7

A signature event each year, this is the largest outdoor concert in the city, filling the New Orleans Fairgrounds with the rhythms of jazz, gospel, Cajun, zydeco, blues, R&B, rock, Latin and much more. Artists such as Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers, Maroon 5, Stevie Wonder, Usher & the Roots and many others are scheduled to perform, making this a once-in-a-lifetime musical celebration. The “Food Fair” will offer up flavors of the city and artists and craftspeople will have their work on display.

Sonesta invites you to join us for either or both of these celebrations! At the Royal Sonesta New Orleans, you’ll be at the center of all the action and at the heart of Bourbon Street’s jazz scene. Enjoy our newly renovated guest rooms, complimentary Wifi and outdoor pool and courtyard throughout your stay. Follow this link to check availability and reserve! We hope to see you for these one-of-a-kind musical extravaganzas!
