Meet the GM: Maureen Fleetwood

This month’s featured General Manager is doubly special because she is the Dual General Manager of Sonesta ES Suites Schaumburg and Sonesta ES Suites Lombard. We asked Maureen a few questions to help our guests get to know the woman who is behind the successful operation of these two hotels. Here’s what she had to say:

What do you like most about working within and leading a hotel (or your hotels)?

I love the teams that I work with and I love the input they have on making the hotels a success.  Also, there is never a dull moment – something is always going on that keeps you on your toes.

During your time with Sonesta – what have you enjoyed most?

Taking a hotel (Schaumburg)  that was un-renovated and unloved and turning it into something special for the team, and for our clients.

What has been your hotel’s most successful Everyday Surprise?

St. Patricks Day- we made green shakes, green beer and everyone really got into it.  Looking forward to doing it again in 2018…

If you weren’t a hotelier, what would you be?

Tough questions… but I’d probably do what my parents wanted me to originally do- be a nurse.  It’s still caring for people but in a different way 🙂

What do you enjoy most about living in the greater Chicago area?

There is always something to do, and I’m never bored and all of my family is fairly close to Chicago.

Name your favorite place to visit—  any destination in the world.

I’m a Florida girl – love the ocean and would LOVE to move there someday.  Probably the Ft Lauderdale area… I’m getting tired of the winters here in Chi-town.

Name three items you absolutely do not travel without.

Sunscreen, cell phone, and my music.

What is something your guests would be surprised to know about you?

I am a big time concert goer – I love to rock out to Filter, Foo Fighters, 3Doors Down, Metallica etc.. and I also love country music… Luke Bryan, Brad Paisley, Dierks Bentley.  I go to all the big shows and I go to all the small venues in the area and do road trips to see shows.

The next time you find yourself traveling to Chicago, book a stay at Sonesta ES Suites Schaumburg or Sonesta ES Suites Lombard and say “hello” to General Manager Maureen Fleetwood!

  1. I stayed at the Sonesta ES for job related, and did not get a choice to select a hotel because it was on company expense. I was impressed with the location being very close to airport and mall. However, I was very disappointed in the rooms being outside of the hotel, and for traveling alone, It was quite frustrating and scary. Upon registration front desk informed me that rooms aren’t connected, which was very surprising. I was thinking everything was connected. Having to go outdoors to get to front desk, fitness room, etc. The room was not what I was expecting. Also, the safety sign on the door made me feel very much on the edge and scared . The bathroom very dated as well as the fire place and cheap uncimfortable sofa. My three nights there house keeping did not do a good job in vacuuming the carpet, and removing all my trash. However I give this hotel a Three star, and it needs a lot of updating it didn’t feel clean and comfortable to me. Finally staff was very nice, including front desk, cooks, and the food was delicious.

    • The hotel recently converted from another brand to Sonesta ES Suites and we have wonderful plans in the works to bring it into our brand standards for decor and appearance this spring. You’ve already experienced the personalized service our brand is known for. The campus style accommodations are preferred by many of our guests – with the convenience of driving closer to your room, the more “apartment-style” feel of the hotel and the residential style of the suites. I’m sorry if you felt unsafe – you are welcome to contact the front desk for an escort from your room if that would reassure you. All of our hotels clearly identify if they are campus or townhouse style vs. a more traditional “all under one roof” for your convenience in the future.
