Meet the GM: Paul Filla, The Chase Park Plaza Royal Sonesta

It’s time for another Meet the GM, and this time, the spotlight is on Paul Filla, the General Manager of The Chase Park Plaza Royal Sonesta Hotel. Though Paul is relatively new to the Sonesta family, he brings with him extensive industry experience and expertise, and his leadership has already made a difference at The Chase Park Plaza. Check out our Q&A with Paul to learn a few interesting facts about one of the newest members of our team.

Q: What do you like most about working within and leading a hotel?

A: I enjoy being able to impact positive change, for the associates, the guests, the investors and the community.

Q: During your brief time with Sonesta – what role/opportunity have you enjoyed or do you look forward to most?

A: Being the Head Coach of the team. When we miss a goal, I have to ask myself, what could I have done to have delivered a better outcome. When we knock it out of the park, being able to truly enjoy the positive energy that is generated by the team on their win.

Q: What has been your hotel’s most successful Amazing Moment?

A: Given my brief time here thus far, I think the most Amazing Moments must be seeing how well our team takes care of the families and the children undergoing medical procedures requiring them to be here for longer term stays. While you might expect the reason for a medical long term stay to be burdensome, I have found the staff really go the extra mile to ensure the children are given exceptional treatment and the parents really appreciate the attention.

Q: If you weren’t a hotelier, what would you be?

A: Working outdoors and with people teaching them wilderness skills.

Q: As a native, what do you enjoy most about living in St. Louis?

A: Living close to so many outdoor activities, biking, hiking, kayaking and you can do all of these in all kinds of weather.

Q: Name your favorite place to visit — any destination in the world.

A: Alaska. I have family up there and my wife Patty and I have been there several times and the more we go and seem there is always more to go and see. It really is unbelievable and would I like to summit Denali someday.

Q: Name three items you absolutely do not travel without.

A: A pair of Keen sandals, a handful of Kind Bars and my toothbrush.

Q: What is something your guests would be surprised to know about you?

A: Between my wife and I we have 15 brothers and 4 sisters that all grew up in St. Louis.

If you ever find yourself at The Chase Park Plaza Royal Sonesta Hotel, keep an eye out for Paul Filla and be sure to welcome him to Sonesta!
