International Women’s Day was March 8, and while we celebrated across the Sonesta brand, it was a particularly exciting day at The Chase Park Plaza Royal Sonesta Hotel St. Louis, where a new group with a focus on equality and opportunity in the workplace was formed.
Open to all employees, the group will aim to create a more supportive working environment for everyone. Some ideas for the group’s work include guest mentors and speakers, sharing case studies about women and equality in the workplace, watching relevant TED Talks together, hosting a book drive in conjunction with a women’s literacy group and volunteering with local organizations.
The first planned group event is a clothing swap where employees can bring in and share items they no longer use, including men’s, women’s and children’s clothing. This fun twist on spring cleaning encourages reusing, and anyone who is interested can go home with new-to-them clothing items. Anything left at the end of the swap will be donated to a local charity.
Our Sonesta #CultureofCaring is important internally as well as in the communities where we live and work, and we look forward to seeing the activities this innovative group at The Chase plans next!
