Who doesn’t love dessert? And who doesn’t love supporting the fight against breast cancer?

The answer to both questions, of course, is “no one.” And the folks at Bakes for Breast Cancer have created a brilliant fund-raising plan around this fact. This year marked the 20th year that they reached out to pastry chefs, bakers, chocolatiers, and confectioners all around Boston to donate all or a portion of their dessert profits toward research and development in the battle against breast cancer. Even offices all around the city have held bake sales, a great way to raise money and, not incidentally, impress coworkers with your culinary skills.

This year, Sonesta was proud to participate in this very sweet week. From May 6-12, the pastry chef at the Royal Sonesta Boston prepared more desserts than usual, thanks to the diners at ArtBar and Dante who knew that, by ordering dessert, they were contributing to this important cause. Granted, with the amazing desserts on the menus, arms didn’t have to be twisted TOO much.

This year, funds raised are supporting the research of Dr. Rachel Freedman at Boston’s Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. Her work focuses on vulnerable patients who are not well represented in clinical trials. This is the fifth year that donations raised during a calendar year have all gone to support the work of one doctor.
