For this month’s “Meet the GM,” we’re getting to know the General Manager of Sonesta ES Suites Montgomery – Misty Ferguson! She shared some surprising and interesting fun facts in our Q&A below – check it out!

Q: What do you like most about working within and leading a hotel?

A: I love being a part of something bigger than myself! I enjoy being able to help guests celebrate their happy times but also to be there to help ease their frustrations during hard times and sadness. It’s also very rewarding being a part of helping my team members realize their potential and watching them get excited as their dreams become reality.

Q: During your time with Sonesta – what role/opportunity have you enjoyed or do you look forward to most?

A: I love the culture that Sonesta embodies. I also truly enjoy having the ability to reach out to the Corporate Team and them be there – that’s a rarity and it’s very much appreciated.

Q: In your opinion, what has been your hotel’s most successful Everyday Surprise?

A: The Pumpkin Painting Contest with the children and the families that were “stuck” here for Halloween last year due to Hurricane Michael – it helped the kids forget that they weren’t at home getting to do their normal “kid” things.

Q: If you weren’t a hotelier, what would you be?

A: A child Psychologist – I love working with kids.

Q: What do you enjoy most about living in Montgomery?

A: I actually live in Auburn (WAR EAGLE) and commute to Montgomery – but what I love the most about Montgomery is all of the history here – it’s amazing all you can learn in this small town!

Q: Name your favorite place to visit — any destination in the world.

A: Any place that I can be my family – they’re who motivates me to be a better person every day.

Q: Name three items you absolutely do not travel without.

A: Unfortunately – my cell phone because I can’t be disconnected from my kids and grandkids; my headphones to listen to my music; and my Kindle because I love to read.

Q: What is something your guests would be surprised to know about you?

A: That I’m a Navy girl – none of my friends though I’d go through with it because I was so “girly” when I was younger and that I studied Criminal Justice and Psychology in college – all while working in a hotel – thought I’d do it long enough to get my degree – 25 years later – I’m still loving what I do in the hospitality world!

Don’t forget to find GM Misty Ferguson and say “hello” the next time you stay at Sonesta ES Suites Montgomery!
