Are you ready for another Meet the GM column? This month, we’re glad to feature Nikki Carraher, who is the General Manager of Sonesta ES Suites Tucson. Our Q&A with Nikki is below – check it out!

Q: What do you like most about working within and leading a hotel?

A: I love that every day is new and exciting, you never know what is going to happen or who you are going to meet. I also love being able to work with my team to provide an amazing, welcoming experience for our guest’s and make them feel at home with us.

Q: Since joining Sonesta – what role/opportunity have you enjoyed or do you look forward to most?

A: I love training people and helping them to find better, more efficient ways of doing things. I have really enjoyed getting to go help out at some of our “sister” hotels this year.

Q: In your opinion, what has been your hotel’s most successful Everyday Surprise?

A: For the ES Brand’s 5th Birthday we did a Sonesta Circus theme. We made the front desk look like a circus tent and had these amazing home made treats like cupcakes that looked like popcorn that out front office manager made. The guests really loved it.

Q: If you weren’t a hotelier, what would you be?

A: A lawyer

Q: What do you enjoy most about living in Tucson?

A: How beautiful it is. There are so many wonderful places to go hiking and the plant and animal life is so diverse here it is really amazing. You can also do outdoor activities most of the year since it stays warm/hot pretty much year round.

Q: Name your favorite place to visit — any destination in the world.

A: I love the beach, especially Corona del Mar and San Diego!

Q: Name three items you absolutely do not travel without.

A: My pillow, Ipad (since books are digital now) and headphones.

Q: What is something your guests would be surprised to know about you?

A: I grew up in the hotel industry and used to spend my weekends as a kid going to work with my Dad and helping set up for weddings and banquets etc.

If you’re ever staying at Sonesta ES Suites Tucson, don’t forget to say “hello” to General Manager, Nikki Carraher!
