Meet Renee Seibert, Director of Sales at Sonesta ES Suites Houston – NASA Clear Lake.
What do you love most about your job?
People. From the guests to the team members, I love people and hospitality. Working in hotel sales allows me to meet so many different people from all around the world. It is the people I have met throughout my career that has helped me shape who I am as a Director of Sales. I have met some amazing people. I’ve met celebrities, astronauts, rocket scientist, a couple presidents and some AMAZING hoteliers. I love being in hospitality business because truthfully it’s the “people business”.
What would surprise others about your job?
Did you know that we are called Director of Sales because Awesome Miracle Worker isn’t an official title? Surprising right? ? Being a Director of Sales in the hospitality industry is like no other sales position. We don’t sell products. We get to sell experiences, solutions and good times! Being a Director of Sales allows me to help people and build meaningful relationships for a living – it doesn’t get better than that!
What are the skills needed to be successful as a Director of Sales?
The basic skills needed to be a successful Director of Sales include patience, perseverance, time management and most importantly the ability to build rapport quickly. Take time to educate yourself on different personality types so you know how to approach and converse with just about anyone. Being a Director of Sales for Sonesta has been one of the best experiences in my career. Sonesta is the best of both worlds in my opinion, as the company is large and successful but it still feels like a small family environment. This allows me to have an abundant amount of support – just a phone call away – and I get to surround myself with like-minded successful people.
The Sonesta ES Suites brand itself is very unique and fun! I love educating people on who we are and why we are SURPRISINGLY DIFFERENT. We are not just a typical extended stay hotel brand – we pay attention to detail and thrive on personal touches for our guest. The Everyday Surprises element is especially fun for the team and guests, especially when we get to surprise guests with something like brownies on National Brownie Day! The environment within our brand is always so positive and uplifting – it truly helps keep me motivated and successful. I am a product of our environment!
