Q: What do you like most about working within and leading a hotel?
Being of service to both our guests and my staff. To provide an exceptional experience to people that are away from home and family I feel is so rewarding. Also, I enjoy working day in and day out with the staff to try to bring them to a higher level while having a good time.
Q: Since joining Sonesta – what opportunity have you enjoyed the most?
I wish I had started in the extended stay portion of the business earlier in my career. It’s completely different from a typical hotel. Getting to know long term guests, the day to day operations, and the unique rooms. I love to learn new things so learning new computer programs and operating systems has been fun for me. Being a temporary Dual GM covering two locations that are on opposite sides of the state has been challenging but extremely gratifying.
Q: In your opinion, what has been your hotel’s most successful Everyday Surprise?
We had an Everyday Surprise once where we had local businesses come to the property and speak with the guests. Some brought interactive activities for the guests to take part in. The evening was extremely enjoyable for all that attended. Guests booked tours or other venues and the businesses thought it was great.
Q: If you weren’t a hotelier, what would you be?
My grandmother taught me about gardening and getting my hands in the dirt when I was young. At one point I really thought about being a Landscape Engineer.
Q: What do you enjoy most about living in greater Flagstaff area?
The mountains are amazing! It’s a beautiful place to live and it’s a resort community. Most people don’t know that we have four seasons.
Q: Name your favorite place to visit — any destination in the world.
Puerto Rico. Old San Juan, the beaches, the cliffs. It’s a great place to explore.
Q: Name three items you absolutely do not travel without.
My Kindle (I’m an avid reader), sun glasses and credit cards.
Q: What is something your guests would be surprised to know about you?
I am crazy about dogs. Boxers are my favorite breed and I am currently in the process of getting another one.
