Welcome to the latest post in our Meet the GM series! Today’s feature takes us to Sonesta ES Suites Jacksonville to meet their new GM, Georgia Martin. Read on to learn about Georgia’s passion for hospitality and her experience as part of the Sonesta family.
Q: What do you like most about working within and leading hotels?
I love the culture within the hospitality industry and particularly, within Sonesta. My passion is taking care of our Guests, with ensuring their stay is perfect. Also, our Team, with making sure they have what they need to succeed and shine daily.
Q: Since joining Sonesta ES Suites – what opportunity have you enjoyed the most or what has made the biggest impression?
Just the opportunity of being a part of the Sonesta family, I have enjoyed greatly. Beginning with the conversion, through the renovation and becoming the very first Sonesta in Jacksonville. It really has been an exciting venture and very happy to be a part of it.
Q: In your opinion, what has been your hotel’s most successful Everyday Surprise?
Our “National Day” Everyday Surprises have been the most popular until our most recent Thanksgiving “Slice of pie and Tea” Everyday Surprise for Thanksgiving. That was a big hit this year. We are excited for our Christmas Everyday Surprise right around the corner, this one may steal the show.
Q: If you weren’t a hotelier, what would you be?
I would have more than likely have become a Veterinarian or a Marine Biologist. I love caring for and the study of all animals, on land and in the sea.
Q: What do you enjoy most about living in Jacksonville?
If you love the outdoors as much as I do, then Jacksonville is the city for you. It’s full of the State Parks and Historical sites, with amazing trails, surrounded by water, and let’s not forget the beautiful beaches and great fishing.
Q: Name your favorite place to visit — any destination in the world.
My absolute, favorite place to visit would be my hometown of New Orleans. So much culture, history, great food and most importantly, my family.
Q: Name three items you absolutely do not travel without.
Must have’s when I travel would be some money, phone and clothing.
Q: What is something your guests would be surprised to know about you?
I would have to say that guests would be surprised to know I am scared of heights.
