January is Human Trafficking Awareness Month, and January 11 is Human Trafficking Awareness Day. Since 2016, it has been part of the Sonesta #CultureofCaring to support ECPAT-USA in their efforts to end human trafficking. ECPAT-USA is a member of ECPAT International, a network of organizations in more than 100 countries with one common mission: to eliminate the sexual exploitation of children around the world.

The hospitality industry is uniquely set up to identify and prevent opportunities for trafficking, and each year we work to increase our awareness of this issue.

As part of our commitment to supporting the work that ECPAT does year-round, we have assigned all Sonesta employees at all locations the task of completing the course “Preventing Human Trafficking”. Following completion of the course, employees will meet with their managers to discuss the course using guidelines developed by ECPAT. We look forward to increasing awareness of the opportunity to help those who may be in trouble and the potential we have to save lives.

In addition to helping raise awareness of trafficking, during the month of January, our team also participates in Shine a Light on Slavery Day and World Day Against Trafficking.
