Meet the GM: Stephane Vogel, Royal Sonesta Washington DC Dupont Circle

Welcome to the latest in our Meet the GM series! Today we travel to one of our new destinations to meet the GM of Royal Sonesta Washington DC Dupont Circle. Read below to learn about Stephane Vogel’s background as a hotelier as well as his interests outside of hotel life.

Q: What do you like most about working within and leading hotels?
My passion for the hotel business is deeply rooted in being eager to please people and build relationships. What motivates me to come to work every day is the people that I have the chance working alongside with.

Q: Since joining Sonesta – what opportunity have you enjoyed the most or what has made the biggest impression?
It has been so refreshing to work with a company who is growing. The challenge of managing change is the opportunity I have enjoyed the most so far. Everyone I have interacted with shares the same enthusiasm for change and everyone has been so welcoming and helpful. We are truly a company with wonderful people.

Q: In your opinion, what has been your team’s most successful Amazing Moment?
This amazing moment was delivered by our Chief Engineer. Upon checking out of the hotel, the guest noticed her back right tire was flat. Jermaine removed the tire for her and placed a spare so that she could go to her appointment in town. While she was away, He went ahead and made sure the tire was fixed by a professional. He then installed the permanent tire back onto the car later that afternoon. What truly makes Jermaine’s actions remarkable is the fact that the flat tire wasn’t something we caused. He recognized a guest needed help and went above and beyond

Q: If you weren’t a hotelier, what would you be?
I would be a bird dog trainer.

Q: What do you enjoy most about living in DC?
The city is an amazing melting pot of different cultures. It is also the center of the world. There is always something interesting happening. I also love the fact that I am only a few hours away from the beach, the woods or the mountains.

Q: Name your favorite place to visit — any destination in the world.
The Swiss Alps. Switzerland is home for me and I love going back whenever I can. Hopefully again very soon.

Q: Name three items you absolutely do not travel without.
My passport, iPad and iPhone
