The Sonesta #CultureofCaring extends beyond our hotel doors to the communities where we work and live. It is part of our core values to encourage our general managers to practice their own entrepreneurial and community spirit in a way that serves their home towns. Whether hosting a fund raiser for a local charity, supporting the local music scene, or giving back in other ways to the community that supports them, Sonesta’s culture of caring keeps on giving.
Recently a few of our Florida hotels collaborated for the first Sonesta Habitat Volunteer Day to support Habitat for Humanity Jacksonville. This fun day of giving back included team members from Sonesta ES Suites Jacksonville, Sonesta Simply Suites Jacksonville, and Sonesta ES Suites Orlando – International Drive, who were able to work together to create place for a lucky family to call home.
This particular home had already had its foundation set and the frame of the house was up, so our Sonesta volunteers were tasked with wrapping the plywood to protect it, as well as to caulk the inside of the house to seal the joints. This was a full day’s work for our amazing team.
Part of the Sonesta mission is to #GoBeyond, and by committing to their team and communicating openly, honestly, and clearly, this group did just that.
The next steps in building the house include adding siding, drywall, and painting, and going all the way through to the placement of the landscape before it can be occupied.
Team Sonesta was happy to be able to contribute to such an impactful organization; Habitat for Humanity Jacksonville is considered to be one of the most successful Habitat for Humanity affiliates in the United States, having provided homeownership opportunities and other housing services to over 2,300 families.
