Welcome to the latest in our Meet the GM series! Today we head to Chicago to meet the GM of the newly renovated Royal Sonesta Chicago Downtown. It’s been an exciting time for Paul and the team, as the hotel unveiled its new look and new art installation. Read below to learn more about Paul’s background and experience with Sonesta in Chicago.

Q: What do you like most about working within and leading hotels?
The people part is the most rewarding. Connecting with the guests and the teams at each hotel is my favorite part of hotel life.

Q: Since joining Sonesta – what opportunity have you enjoyed the most or what has made the biggest impression?
I have enjoyed the collaboration with the many leaders, both at the home office and the hotels in the market, who have recently joined during Sonesta’s explosive growth period. I am excited to be a part of defining the brand(s)

Q: If you weren’t a hotelier, what would you be?
I am an avid music fan and would have enjoyed a life in this industry – talent and production side of things because I can’t sing or play an instrument.

Q: What do you enjoy most about living in Chicago?
I have always been a fan of all the different cultures that make up this great city. The small neighborhoods intermingled with all the great food. Love the dining scene.

Q: Name your favorite place to visit — any destination in the world.
I grew up in Hawaii so always enjoy a trip to the islands. A close second would be Cabo San Lucas.

Q: Name three items you absolutely do not travel without.
Apple earbuds, Spotify, and my passport
