There are so many reasons to indulge in the beautiful setting and exemplary services at the Sonesta Resort Hilton Head Island. Strolling along the soothing beach … lounging by the pool … savoring a treatment at Arum Spa with ingredients straight from the resort’s natural setting. We, too, feel inspired by the pristine beauty of the Low Country and consider ourselves humble stewards of it. So we were especially honored to be accepted as a TripAdvisor GreenLeader.

More and more travelers today tell us that preserving the environment plays a key role in what destination they visit and where they stay once they’ve arrived. We support such a green approach to travel wholeheartedly. Which is why we’re so pleased that we’ve received accolades in TripAdvisor’s special program.

The GreenLeaders program helps travelers around the world plan greener trips by highlighting hotels and bed and breakfasts engaging in environmentally friendly practices. Properties that “make the green grade” have met a set of environmental standards that were developed for TripAdvisor by a leading environmental consulting firm. The more green practices a hotel has in place, the higher its GreenLeader level. The level is then highlighted on the property’s TripAdvisor listing.

“We’re pleased to be recognized by TripAdvisor for our sustainability efforts at the resort,” said Jay Wiendl, General Manager of Sonesta Resort Hilton Head Island. “We make it a priority to provide green offerings and products to our guests – from our full-service spa to in-room accommodations – and it’s also a significant component of our own culture at Sonesta.

The Sonesta Resort Hilton Head Island scored high on many practices, including recycling, energy-efficiency, water efficiency, locally grown food, building materials, waste removal, and training and education of staff and guests. You can review all the ways the resort helps preserve the environment by clicking on the green leaf on the TripAdvisor listing.

“TripAdvisor GreenLeaders are leading the hospitality industry in making efforts to improve their environmental footprint,” said Jenny Rushmore, Director of Responsible Travel at TripAdvisor. “We greatly applaud these hotels and B&Bs, and are pleased to share their eco-friendly practices with our online community of more than 260 million travelers who visit the site each month.”

The TripAdvisor GreenLeaders program was developed in consultation with the United Nations Environment Programme, the U.S. Green Building Council, ENERGY STAR, and the International Center for Responsible Tourism Canada, among other leading environmental organizations.
