That’s right — we’re back with another Meet the GM! This month’s featured General Manager is Bob Cosgrove of Sonesta Philadelphia Downtown Rittenhouse Square. Check out our Q&A with Bob below to learn more about the man who keeps this hotel running in tip-top shape!

Q: What do you like most about working within and leading a hotel?

A: What I like is giving back to the staff, sharing my knowledge of the industry.  Inspiring them to do their best and rewarding them for the great hospitality they provide to our guests.

Q: During your brief time with Sonesta – what role/opportunity have you enjoyed most?

A: The role that I’m in and coming back to a property I truly love and being welcomed by the staff.  It has been very humbling and has motivated me to work even harder for them.

Q: What has been your hotel’s most successful Amazing Moment ?

A: Just recently we received a Trip Advisor review where a Mother and Daughter stayed with us for 8 days due to her daughter having major spinal surgery.  They stated “We were both exhausted, plus she was still in a fragile state from her surgery. To say that this hotel went above and beyond is an understatement. They happily added “extras” to our room to help with my daughter’s comfort. Additionally, both the management staff and the house cleaning staff gave my daughter cards and small, inexpensive gifts.”  Needless to say they were completely blown away by their customer service. In their words “they treated us so well that we can’t imagine staying anywhere else!”  Wow, what GM wouldn’t want to receive a review like this!

Q: If you weren’t a hotelier, what would you be?

A: I would do something related to design.  I love the thrill of being creative and making something out of nothing.

Q: What do you enjoy most about living in the local Philadelphia area?

A: Philadelphia is the best kept secret between NY and DC.  I was born and raised here and in my opinion there is no better city!  Additionally, we are only one hour from the Jersey Shore.

Q: Name your favorite place to visit — any destination in the world.

A: I truly love Bermuda for the pink sand beaches.  It’s my happy place.

Q: Name three items you absolutely do not travel without.

A: Water, M&M’s and my iPad (during baseball season I get to watch any game in any city)

Q: What is something your guests would be surprised to know about you?

A: A couple of things, I am a Marine.  Secondly, I played saxophone for over 30 years.
